Ferry Station
(23./26.9.2023) Further contributions to my Nick Drake/River Man artist book. This time a poem with a photograph. More poems are to come.
Ferry Station
I cannot change, it is my nature, the man said
To the woman and
Near the ferry station.
And I don’t understand how
The city administration
Does manage these borders
Of the river.
Because here is private property, and there is public space
And there is no continuous walk along these borders,
And in the most quiet places, with luscious green,
Hardly anyone ever is to be seen.
And I am stumbling back, since the decisive paled gate is locked
And I am not getting there, down to the very river.
While on a bench, the two of them are still sitting there, and it is autumn.
A bell is to be rung if passengers
Might want to cross the river by ferry.
And the bell is ringing, a sound mixing with all the city bells at noon.
