Dedicated to a Gate
(Picture: Wolfgang Fricke)
This Gate is Huge and Mighty (Shopping Mall II)
(18.11.2023)
This Gate is Huge and Mighty
Riding out a thunderstorm
Makes me notice that this gate is
Huge and mighty.
Some Chinese emperor’s capital’s gate, some
Gate, in size phenomenal, of, perhaps, a Baltic
Sea ferry (Principessa
Birgitta, was its name?).
It’s this space that actually
Is meant to be rushed through by people.
But people are assembled now, a group
Of people, where, usually people do not stop.
A vestibule, might be the name, for
Such airconditioned shelter, improvised, where
People are observing now, the rain, the
Heavy rain, and noticing, from time to time
Lightning and thunder, some are calm, some even
Disinterested obviously, some definitely are somewhere else, and every
Now and then sombody running through the rain, while the majority seems
Bored, to notice that the group gets larger, or
Has lost an honorary member to the rain, informal group, as sociologists
Might say, but lightning has just struck, and heavy thunder
Probably a hit, not here, but over there, beyond the huge parking lot,
A hit in the do-it-yourself – shelter yourself – market, perhaps, the sound
Alarming, the thunder, immediately with lightning.
But now it seems to be all gone, and sun is coming out
I’m noticing
This gate is huge, this vestibule, this gate is huge and
Mighty.
